Saturday 11th June 2011

We greatly regret that this year Mr Rowland is unable to bring his carousel for our Celebrations.

“Oh, I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside” A photographic exhibition presented by Ilfracombe Museum can be seen in the Landmark Theatre entrance during the Celebrations.

Judging of the shop windows and the best dressed gentleman shop assistant and lady shop assistant will take place throughout the week.

Ilfracombe Museum

Enrich your Victorian experience with a visit to Ilfracombe Museum to view the model steamers and photographs, the Victoria Pavilion, Royal memorabilia, Victorian costumes, ladies & gentlemen’s accessories, the Victorian kitchen and much more. Normal admission price and return as often as you like during the week.

Queen Victoria’s Royal Parade to Trinity Fair

Led by the Barnstaple Town Youth Marching Band. From the Candar at the top of Fore Street, the Parade processes along the High Street to all the fun of a traditional fair at the Vicarage Gardens, St Brannocks Road. Delicious cream teas, side shows, stalls, amusements and bargains. Judging of the best dressed Victorians (adults and children). This competition is arranged and judged by the Parish Church.

Victorian Musical Evening

Presented by Elizabeth Kemp and friends at Emmanuel Church, Wilder Road. Admission by programme, £5, including refreshments.

Sunday 12th June 2011

Spend a leisurely morning discussing the Empire with fellow Victorians at one of the many excellent tea and coffee houses around the town, or visit the Exhibitions.

A Festival of Victorian Praise

at Emmanuel Church, Wilder Road.

Crowning of Victorian Prince and Princess

This competition is open to boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 12 years and will be judged in the Runnymede Garden Bank stand. Cups and prizes will be awarded to winners. Please note that the winners may be expected to attend other events during the year, so visitors should be aware as this may present difficulties.

Promenading

From the Landmark Theatre, along the Seafront, led by the newly crowned Prince and Princess. Do join in to recreate the atmosphere of a Victorian Sunday afternoon parade.

Relax in the lovely surroundings of Runnymede Gardens. Bring your own picnic.

Victorian Coffee Morning – Ilfracombe Museum.

Quench your thirst and knowledge at our coffee morning while perusing our quality selection of second-hand books. Have a go on the tombola and the raffle to win a beautiful Rag Rug made especially by Liz Howard (to be drawn on Friday). Free admission to the museum during the coffee morning.

Victorian Afternoon Soiree and Tea

At the Emmanuel Church, Wilder Road. A genteel experience, delightful conversation. Highly-trained maids will serve superb food and there will be musical entertainment by Simply4Saxes. Admission by ticket £4.95.

Pearlies Night

At The Wheel, sea front. Come and have a barrel of fun! Join in for an evening of music and song. Admission £3 on the door.

Tuesday 14th June 2011

Chucklefoot will be around during Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to entertain.
There’s time to visit the Pram Exhibition at Pip and Jim’s Church, or visit Bicclescombe Park.

10.30am-1.00pm

 

Promenade in Bicclescombe Park, visit the Mill tea rooms, weather permitting.

Free Community minibus will take you from Runnymede Gardens.

Teddy Bears Picnic

Goldilocks wouldn’t believe her eyes if she went down to the Landmark Theatre today! Not just three bears but lots and lots as they gather with their owners for the annual Teddy Bears Picnic. Please bring your own Teddy and picnic. Chucklefoot will entertain.

Victorian Bathing Belles and Beaux

Gather at the harbour beach to brave the elements for a paddle in the sea. Fun and frolics in a less refined manner before the judging of the best Bathing Belle or Beau. Open to all ages, shapes and sizes. Children welcome.

Sandcastle competition and games on the beach before parading to Wilders Beach.

VICTORIAN PAPER DOILY LACE CRAFT at Ilfracombe Museum

Enjoy this decorative craft with Noreen Spencer. Free admission but a small donation for materials supplied welcome.

Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum!

Pirates arrive at the Lantern, High Street. Before and after Victoria became Queen, piracy and smuggling were rife and her Majesty’s Customs wanted their due share of the bounty! You are invited to come along in suitable costumes to re-live the good old days of Pirates and Smugglers in Ilfracombe. Fun and games organised by John and Rosemary Blythe. Calling All Liberated Women!

Meet at the Lantern, High Street, and join the Suffragettes on their March for Women’s Rights. Make your voice heard as you march along the High Street, down Summers Crescent and along the sea front to a rally with guest speakers in Runnymede Gardens.

Find out more about Ilfracombe’s Victorian Past at The Royal Britannia Hotel, near the harbour.

Tony Kiley will tell us, with slides, about the Victorian Cairn followed by Susan Garwood at 3.30 pm who will speak, also with slides, about the Ilfracombe Victorian Life Boat service and a particularly courageous coxswain. Entrance is £2.50 at the door.

At the Lantern, High Street. Watch as the miscreants from the week’s events are bought before ‘the beak’ for punishment. £3 on the door to include light refreshments.

All welcome to the Marlborough Road site for this very popular event. You will witness a very special event during the afternoon! On your way home from the school, take the opportunity to promenade along the seafront.

All the splendour of a glorious Victorian Evening. Dances led by Merrymakers Old Tyme Dance Group. Victorian dress is compulsory. Tickets £12.50 to include buffet. All the fun of a Victorian Shopping Day! Stalls will be situated all along the sea front for most of the day and into the evening. A unique opportunity to purchase specialised goods from local traders as well as items from further afield.

Visit Larkstone Café for lunch, followed by Games (croquet/bowls/petanque etc) or just sit and enjoy the views over the town.

Free Community minibus will take you there from Runnymede Gardens.

Candlelit Procession

This popular event will leave the harbour and parade to the Landmark Theatre green. Bring your own lanterns to light your way. Everyone welcome.

A spectacular display from the top of Capstone Hill.
